To determine the highest and best use of the assets of the Aroostook Band of Micmacs (ABM or Tribe), the ABM has been awarded an United States Department of Agriculture’s Rural Business Development Grant (USDA RBDG) to provide planning and business development to establish sound economic development strategy for the Tribe’s land and base that strategy on asset-based development practices, strong market research, and the ability to take advantage of various benefits and incentives for doing business on ABM land. Planning efforts include:
Environmental scan of the region, its socio-demographics, current economy, regional assets and natural resources, workforce characteristics, and export markets;
Community visioning, goals setting, and values defining to shape community economic development scenarios that meet and are aligned with the Tribe’s culture and people;
Asset-based development analysis to define Tribal assets using a framework that considers seven forms of capital;
Value-chain analysis of economic clusters and key industries aligned with Tribal and regional assets;
Market analysis of potential markets and distribution channels identified high-value economic clusters and key industries; and
Stakeholder and partner analysis to identify key resources to ensure sustainable success.
What will this information do?
The idea behind collecting all of this data and doing all of this research is so that in the end, the ABM will have a tool that can be used to make informed decisions in strategic planning and business. This website will be designed so that it can be continually updated, available to Tribal Council, administrative officials and Eltueg Corporation Board Members and employees. If desired and/or necessary, the final design may then be transferred over to another type of in-house "dashboard" with upgraded security features.
There will be a continuous flow of information accessible to those who need it. Important dates, resource links, inventories, survey results, legislation...whatever the tribe determines is useful when trying to see the big picture. This takes things out of the filing cabinets and puts it up on the wall to allow for creative ideas to flow.
The Nation Building Group is a committee that was designated by the Aroostook Band of Micmacs Tribal Council to work on projects determined to be important to the ABM Tribal Community. This website is designed to be a resource and informational tool for use by ABM officials to make informed business and strategic planning decisions. Committee members may be contacted at: firstname.lastname@example.org. This website is supported by All Nations Global Solutions, LLC.
